Milk Chocolate Souvenir Tin
Built in 1855 of red sandstone in the Norman style,
and known by locals as "The Castle" ever since,
the Smithsonian Institute Building functions as the
administrative headquarters of the Smithsonian
Institution. The Smithsonian Institution was founded
in 1846 at the bequest of British scientist James
Smithson for the "increase and diffusion" of knowledge,
and boasts over 30 museums and research centers
under its administration.
